Many of my friends are new mamas or soon-to-be mamas so I thought I’d share products that really stood out/made a difference during the first couple months of Olivia’s life.

Let’s begin with books…there are sooooo many books out there about babies! These three were my favorites and although I did not agree with everything I was still able to take bits and pieces from each and incorporate them into my parenting style. It is important to read each book with an open mind and know that not everything is going to work for every baby.

The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems is great for learning about how to get your baby on a schedule (if you are opposed to this idea then this book might not be for you). I found So That’s What They’re For to be a light-hearted and realistic read on breastfeeding. Being a first time mama with no knowledge on breastfeeding, I knew I would need all the help I could get and this book was extremely helpful and easier to read than some of the other books that are out there on the same topic. If you’re looking for help with breastfeeding and would like an online resource I recommend visiting here. The Happiest Baby On The Block offers insight on the subjects of colic and calming a crying baby. I found the swaddle method used in this book really calmed Olivia when she was fussy and helped her sleep through the night.

With pacifiers, we waited until Olivia was a month old to introduce one. We wanted to make sure that she was a solid nurser first. When the one month mark came, she didn’t really care for one but we were making a trip to San Antonio for the holidays and she was going to need something to help her get through a couple flights. The Wubbanub is great because the little stuffed animal helps keep the pacifier close to the baby and the baby is able to maneuver the pacifier back into his or her mouth if it falls out.

The Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit is what got us through the 4 month sleep regression that some babies experience. (You can read about the 4 month sleep regression here.) Olivia slept great swaddled in her rock ‘n play and would usually wake up around 2 am for a feeding but would fall back to sleep immediately after. When she began to attempt rolling over while swaddled, it was time to get her in her crib and out of the swaddle. She still had her newborn startle reflex so she needed something to muffle the reflex in order to sleep well and that is exactly what the sleep suit did.

OliviaInSuitIsn’t she the cutest?

I had the hardest time picking out a diaper bag and I guess that’s because I didn’t want a traditional one. When I discovered Tote Savvy and realized that I could make almost all of large handbags into a diaper bag I was ecstatic.  The insert is made out of nylon, easy to clean, and holds everything you could possibly need for your baby. I recommend this product for the mama that doesn’t want to sacrifice her personal style and give up her awesome purse.

And last but not least, the Solly Baby Wrap. Olivia lived in this wrap for the first couple of months of her life. I would wear her around the house so that I could clean and get laundry done. I loved this wrap because I was able to get daily tasks done while simultaneously bonding with Olivia by having her physically close to me.

Oh and I can’t forget! If you are about to register for a baby shower or you want to read reviews on products, you should visit Lucie’s List. I didn’t find that website until after Olivia was born but it is still extremely helpful and the newsletter is pretty amazing. Thanks for visiting and reading!
