Due to allergies and genetics, I have always struggled with dark circles. I have tried a million concealers and none of them seemed to work. It wasn’t until I added a color corrector, that I was able to really conceal them.
Quick product rundown:
- eye cream
- color corrector (my shade is light medium peach)
- hydrating concealer (my shade is light beige)
- setting powder (preferably one that is brightening…my shade is Magic Sands)
Tools:
- concealer brush
- setting brush
- beauty sponge (these are so good! you get 5 for $9. oh and Amazon Prime:)!)
Step One: I always start with a good eye cream. I always try different eye creams because I feel like I am never satisfied. I am currently using the OleHenriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream and it is brightening with vitamin C. So far I like it, I feel like it is very hydrating and my makeup layers well on top.
Step Two: This is the MOST important one! A color corrector will change your concealer game because it helps neutralize and cancel out all that darkness. I apply a small amount with a concealer brush on the area of my under eye that is the darkest and blend out using my fingers. For a no makeup look I could pop this on and not layer concealer over and it looks pretty good. I will never wear concealer without a corrector ever again.
Step Three: My current favorite concealer is the Too Faced Born This Way one. It is super hydrating and doesn’t settle into my fine lines. I always pick a concealer that is a shade or two lighter than my skin tone in order to brighten the area. I apply the concealer with the wand it comes with and blend out with a damp beauty sponge.
If I am going to an event and I want my concealer to last all day, I usually opt for a matte concealer and my favorite is MAC Prolongwear. This one doesn’t budge but it dries down quick so I have to be fast with blending it out.
Here are a few of my favorite concealers:
Step Four: Next we set all of our hard work with a brightening powder. I love Laura Mercier’s translucent powder for days where I want to bake my under eye area. But for day to day I have been loving Ilia’s powder in Magic Sands. It has a yellow tint to it which really helps brighten the area and it is not as drying as the one by Laura Mercier. I do not recommend baking with this specific shade of powder because it will leave a yellow cast. One more thing about this powder, it is extremely popular and sells out quick so if you want it I recommend signing up for notifications for restocks.
And that’s it. If you have any questions leave them below! Also, what are some of your favorite concealers? I am always on the hunt for new ones, so please share!
